Reddit Pain Point Discovery: A Practical Playbook

Use this reddit pain point discovery workflow to find customer pain points on Reddit, run reddit user pain analysis, and build a repeatable reddit market research tool process.

Reddit Pain Point Discovery: A Practical Playbook

If you want honest market language, Reddit is one of the highest-signal sources. The key is turning raw threads into structured pain clusters instead of random screenshots.

Search operators

  • site:reddit.com "frustrated with" "your category"
  • site:reddit.com "I wish there was" "your category"
  • site:reddit.com/r/* "alternative to" "competitor name"
  • site:reddit.com "tool for" "job to be done"

30-minute method

  1. Pick one segment and one job-to-be-done.
  2. Collect 15-20 posts with direct complaint language.
  3. Cluster complaints by recurring workflow pain.
  4. Tag each cluster by severity and frequency.
  5. Convert top clusters to feature hypotheses.

How to make findings trustworthy

Before you present findings to customers, founders, or PMs:

  • include at least one verbatim quote per cluster
  • separate symptoms ("too slow") from root causes ("manual handoff across tools")
  • add one "counter-evidence" example that challenges your assumption

This makes your reddit user pain analysis more credible and less biased.
